It Takes a Village to Raise a Child – Introducing the Start Well Project

Thanks to funding from the London Borough of Waltham Forest, our new Start Well Project is based on the ancient African proverb ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. The ‘village’ represents the environment where a child grows up.

Waltham Forest is vibrant borough and there are fantastic opportunities for children to experience the awe and wonder of the world. Yet so many families report feeling isolated and lonely, and when life gets challenging they lack reliable sources of support.

Start Well is a new project aimed at working along-side families to expand and develop their ‘village’, where communities of people focus on supporting children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment and develop their potential.

Members of our immediate family shape our values, beliefs and personalities, but the community we live in- our friends, jobs, homes, education and the services we use, all play an important role in shaping our health and wellbeing throughout our lives.

The Start Well Project aims to help our ‘village’ flourish!

The team will work with families to create services where they can:

  1. Build friendships and reduce loneliness and isolation for yourself or others

  2. Meet families who have similar experiences and use your experiences to help others

  3. Support local organisations to improve children’s services

  4. Build a network of people who will be there to support you through life’s challenges

  5. Widen your opportunities such as new experiences for your child, or career development opportunities for parents

Do you want to meet other families, support local services and get involved in the project?

Are you interested in using your experiences to support other families?

Do you have an existing community group you want to expand?

Email familysupport@tlpcc.org.uk or message us on Facebook @LloydParkCC. Leave your name and contact details and a member of the team will be in touch.
